It describes in detail the complex economic, social, and ecological adaptations of a resilient people to drastic shifts in resource availalbility after the closing of the Tibetan frontier in the 1950s that disrupted trade and migratory patterns.

Lhasa: Streets with Memories di Barnett Robert

 In breve: Barnett has an artist's eye for detail, and his writing is lush and vivid. The dual narratives struck me at first as an interesting literary device: the scholar describes the city's development from the ground up, while the foreigner sees the superficial and gradually learns to read what's below the surface.
